SHILLONG: A social organization Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has reportedly accused the Assam government of encroaching into the territory of Meghalaya.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the organization urged the state government to take immediate action against the continuous encroachment of land by the neighboring state.
The organization further stated that the Assam government neglected the status quo signed between the two states and said that the encroachment has been done intentionally.

HITO added that Assam has been repeatedly encroaching into the territory of Northeastern states including Nagaland and Meghalaya.
It urged the Chief Minister to be in talks with these states as well and together approach the central government.
It further stated that the regional parties ignored the border issue even when the issue was mentioned in their manifestoes.
Recently some leaders from Assam visited Khatkasla village in West Jaintia Hills where the new border police outpost was set up.
