Guwahati, January 26, 2020:

The Assam government has conferred the Republic Day Journalism Award 2020 to veteran journalist Jadu Kakati.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal honored Jadu Kakati for his lifelong contribution to journalism in Assam.

Kakati ventured into journalism with a bi-weekly named Asom Batori. He was the Assistant Editor of the bi-weekly. He was also a major part of Neelachal Weekly from 1968 to 1974.

His contribution towards the growth and development of Dainik Janambhumi, an Assamese daily, is also immense. Kakati also worked with Dainaik Agradoot, another Assamese daily from 1979 to 1991.

Kakati has been the Office Bearer of sveral media groups of journalists in Assam. Some of them are Guwahati Journalists’ Association, Assam Journalists’ Association and Journalists’ Association of Assam. He was also the Founder and President of the Guwahati Press Club, Member of the Press Accreditation Committee and President of the Assam Assembly Press Reporters’ Committee.

It may be mentioned here that in 2019, Journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty, former Editor of Dainik Asom, Dainik Janambhumi and Ajir Batori group of newspapers, was honored with the Assam Republic Day Journalism Award.
