An alternate route is being constructed which will serve as an additional road in order to provide better access to the historic Maa Kamakhya shrine in Guwahati, Assam.
The construction of the 4.3 km long road will cost Rs 108 crores, including land and building compensation.
Paying a visit to the site for inspection, PWD Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday shared a few pictures of the site.

Taking to social media, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “This morning, along with officials of PWD, inspected an alternate and additional road that is being constructed to provide better access to Maa Kamakhya shrine from Maligaon. The 4.3 km road will cost Re 108 cr including land and building compensation.”
Hinting at the construction of a new road overbridge at Maligaon Chairali, the Minister tweeted, “With officials of PWD, I discussed the possibility of building a road overbridge at Maligaon Chairali. I have requested officials to give me a feasibility analysis report so that we are in a position to take a final decision on it soon.”
It may be mentioned here that the Kamakhya Temple, also known as Kamrup-Kamakhya temple, Kamakhya Devalaya, is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya. It is one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pithas which are located across the nation.
