Assam Government will be holding discussions on the current state of the socio-economic census of its indigenous Muslims on February 11, Tuesday.
The Ministry of Welfare of Minorities and Development Department has issued a notification regarding the meeting. Discussions will be held on the socio-economic census of the indigenous Muslims of Assam, Goria, Moria, Ujani, Deshi, Jola, Maimal, Syed, etc.

It may be mentioned here that the BJP-led Assam government had announced the conducting of a socio-economic census of Assamese Muslims in its 2019-2020 annual budget. The aim of the census was to focus on the overall development of the indigenous Muslims.

The meeting on Tuesday will be headed by the Minister, Welfare of Minorities and Development, Ranjit Dutta. Recently, he was quoted saying, “We are aware of the unique problems faced by the Assamese Muslims. Process of registering the corporation (with Rs 100 crore) is underway and will happen very soon. Once that is done, a survey will be done to find out the exact number of indigenous Muslims.”
