In a step that is expected to provide much relief to students overburdened with school work, the Government of Assam has undertaken a noble initiative to lighten the load of their shoulders.
The Assam Government and Assam Education minister, Siddhartha Bhattacharya have appealed all schools in the state to follow the new directives issued by the Human Resource Department ministry over weight limitations of school bags.The new guidelines will be in effect from May 30, the Department has informed.
The guidelines state that the students should only bring the needful amount of books and other materials which are required for study during a particular day.
The weight of bags should not exceed:
Class I-II: 1.5 kilos
Class III-V: 2-3 kilos
Class VI-VII: 4 kilos
Class VIII-IX: 4.5 kilos
Class X student: 5 kilos
