Assam Govt issues new SOP for Int’l passengers amid Omicron threat

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government on Monday issued new SOP for international travellers arriving in the state.

All international travellers must undergo RT-PCR test on arrival, amid rising number of cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country. However, The children below five years of age having been exempted

According to the new SOP, 7-day home quarantine compulsory for those who test negative for the coronavirus infection.

In an official statement, it was mentioned that the travellers who would test positive for coronavirus infection will have to adher to the rules formulated by the Assam government and their samples would be sent for genome sequencing to determine the COVID variant.

The district authorities will keep a close watch on the international travellers and ensure that they follow all the protocols.

People who wish to travel out of or come into Assam will have to upload a self-declaration form on "Air Suvidha" portal before the scheduled journey.

The travellers have also been asked to give an undertaking that they would adher to all the guidelines issued by the Assam government in regards to COVID.

The undertaking would have to be given on the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s portal through airlines before undertaking the journey.

India reported 17 more cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 on Sunday - nine in Rajasthan capital Jaipur, seven in Maharashtra's Pune district and a 37-year-old fully vaccinated man who arrived in Delhi from Tanzania - taking the tally to 21 in the country.
