DISPUR: The Assam Government has issued a new set of rules and regulations that are to be followed by hostellers. The hostels of the educational institutions -- which have been kept shut amid the COVID-19 pandemic -- shall be reopened from December 15.
Although educational institutions have reopened on November 2, hostels were kept shut, with some being used as quarantine centres.
According to the Government SOP, preferance shall be given to students who do not have any support at home and no facility for online education which is cuurently being used to impart education.
Screening of every hostel boarder needs to be done before they stay in hostels, the SOP stated, adding that only asymptomatic boarders shall be allowed to stay. Meanwhile, the number of inmates shall be reduced by 50%, stated the SOP.

Rapid Antigen Tests have also been made compulsory for the staff such as hostel superintendents, wardens, cooks, and helpers.
The SOP further added that the hostels will have to be fully sanitized -- "including kitchens, toilets, bedrooms, dormitories, dining halls, seating halls, etc."
For students willing to come and stay in residential hostels, consent will have to be taken from the parents in writing.
Moreover, the students will have to report in a phased manner.
Students will be accommodated in the dormitory in alternate beds, and the beds that are to be kept vacant will have to be properly labelled.
