GUWAHATI: The Political Department of Assam Government through a notification today has ordered the Border police not to forward any case against a member of the Gorkha community to Foreigner’s Tribunals under Foreigner’s Act 1946.

According to the 2011 census, there are about 5 lakhs Gorkhas residing in Assam. In the 2019 NRC list, 20000-22000 members of the community did not find a place. Also, there are nearly 2500 cases of doubtful or D-voters from the Gorkha community pending in different Foreigners' Tribunals in the state.
