GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has ordered a probe into the bizarre incident wherein over 1,000 fish were found dead and floating in the Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati, informed state Environment and Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya.
"Following the news of dead fish floating on Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati, instructed the officials of the department to visit the site and ascertain cause(s) of fishes' deaths," Suklabaidya informed via his Twitter account.
Although the actual reason for the deaths has not been confirmed, it is being speculated that a low oxygen saturation rate in the water due to heavy rain and humid climate could have led to the fish's demise.

Most of the dead fish are identified to be local kinds weighing between one to 10 kilograms.
There are a few claims that the fish might have died due to the poor hygiene of the pond as well.
