GUWAHATI: Assam's chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today convened a meeting to make preparations for the rolling out of the flagship 'Arunodoi' scheme in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

To understand the preparations for the launch of Arunoday and Swayam Scheme at BTR, the Chief Minister, BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia, Chief Executive Member of BTR Pramod Bodo, and cabinet minister U G Brahma today attended a review meeting.

Monthly financial support of Rs 830 will be sent to the bank accounts of women from BTR's financially weak families via DBT and the members of the self-help group registered by the self-scheme will be provided with two installments for the purpose of starting and expanding their business. By the end of June, a total of 10,000 youths of BTR are expected to benefit from this scheme.

Assam's largest direct benefit transfer scheme ‘Arunodoi’ was launched to provide monthly aid to 17 lakh marginal income families. Under the scheme, each beneficiary gets Rs 830 in their bank account every month to buy essential food items. This scheme has been running for the last several months. The main beneficiary under this scheme would be the woman of the house.

Although it is already being implemented in almost all districts, the government of Assam held back from introducing it in the BTR region last December owing to the elections.

Biswa Sarma, then the finance minister of the state, said that the government would introduce the scheme if the people helped him defeat Hagrama Mohilary, the then Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the BTR.

The BJP, United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) were able to form the government after forming a 'majority' paving the way for the eventual implementation of the schemes.
