Keeping in view the recent rising trend in COVID-19 cases in Guwahati, the Assam government has started random testing in Guwahati from July 20th, 2020. The healthcare staff and district administration will make random visits to offices, business establishments and shops etc, and will take swab samples of employees for COVID-19 tests.
After lockdown for three consecutive weeks in Guwahati following spike in COVID-19 cases, the Assam Government has relaxed the lockdown with certain conditions in the city for two weeks with effect from July 20th, 2020.
Assam recorded 1018 new COVID-19 cases on July 19th, 2020 taking the total to 23,999, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed. Of 1018 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 577 were reported in Guwahati alone.
Of 23,999 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, 7916 are active and 16023 have been cured and discharged so far while 57 died due to the infection.
The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.
