The State GST Department’s Enforcement Unit has intensified its raid on J Infratech Limited, a Gurugram-based construction firm, over alleged tax evasion amounting to approximately Rs 35 crore. The ongoing operation, now in its third consecutive day, is being conducted at the company’s Dhubri premises in the Pratapganj region.
J Infratech Ltd., formerly known as Jandu Construction India Pvt. Ltd., is currently engaged in the Four-Lane Highway Project 127B, which connects Srirampur to Dhubri, one of Assam’s key infrastructure developments.
An 11-member team from the GST Enforcement Unit, Guwahati, is leading the probe, which has unearthed several irregularities suggesting large-scale financial malpractice. The investigation is primarily focusing on:
Fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) Claims: The company allegedly availed tax credits using bogus invoices without actual supply of goods or services, a major method of defrauding the exchequer.
Unreported Movement of Goods: Officials are probing the alleged transportation of construction materials without e-waybills, indicating attempts to conceal transactions and evade tax.
Sources revealed that Mohit Jandu, one of the company’s Managing Directors, has come under scrutiny for the financial discrepancies detected during the search.
Officials stated that this operation is part of the GST Department’s data-driven crackdown on tax evasion, especially among works contractors and infrastructure firms handling government-funded projects in Assam.
The probe, which continues into its next phase, aims to determine the exact magnitude of the tax evasion and gather sufficient evidence for potential prosecution.
