Assam: Guwahati school declared micro containment zone by district administration

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Thursday declared Kamakhya High School, Maligaon as a containment zone to contain the spread of COVID-19.

In an official statement issued by Biswajit Pegu, Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (M) stated that the school is directed to remain closed for next 7 days.

"In view of detection of COVID-19 positive teachers in the Kamakhya High School, Maligaon Guwahati under Kamrup Metropolitan district in the interest of the maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst the teaching staff and students, the school is hereby declared as Micro Containment zone and the school authority is directed to close the school for next 7 days wef from Thursday and the Circle Officer, Guwahati Revenue Circle is directed to seal the area immediately", the statement read.

Any movement of any unauthorized individual and vehicle within the notified area is also prohibited with immediate effect.

It further stated that the school Authority is asked to attend the COVID-19 test for the teaching staff and other students as and when carried out by the term deputed by the joint director of health services kamrup metropolitan district.

For the purpose, the Principle, NPS International school will arrange separate place outside school campus, the notification stated.

Earlier in the day, the Assam Chief Minister special vigilance cell has been declared containment zone for 7 days after COVID positive cases were detected among people.

Talking to InsideNE, Biswajit Pegu Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner stated that, “We have declared the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption as a micro containment zone.

He further informed that 11 out of 48 people tested positive in the area.

In the recently  released SOPs, the state government has stated that if more than 10 people are found to be COVID positive in any particular area, that region will declared as a micro containment zone.
