The Haflong Market sellers have set for a strike for the last three days.

According to the statement of the sellers and the businessmen of the market, the rate given by the Haflong Town Committee is very low so they cannot sell in that rate.

They said the rate of the commodities were fixed three months ago by the Haflong Town Committee following the order of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and also ask the businessmen that if they can’t able to sell the commodities in that given price then after one week the rate will be changed.

The businessmen informed the Town committee about the rate and their problems but after three months till today, the Haflong town committee didn’t change the rate of commodities. Now the businessmen those who are dealing with chickens are on strike because in the same district the rate of chickens is different like the place Mahur, Maibang but at Haflong the rate of the chickens fixed by Town Committee is too low.

According to the businessmen, they can’t sell or bear in the rate which was fixed by the Haflong Town Committee, which is saying until the rate will be not raised by the Haflong Town Committee they will on strike.

Meanwhile, there are also allegations that a group of youths which is said to be patronized by ruling N.C. Hills Autonomous council has warned all the businessman at Haflong town not to purchase any product from outside and sale at Haflong town as they will supply the product and the businessman will have to purchase from them only.

These products include Fish, Meat, Chicken, Vegetable, fruits, and other product.

The chicken market opposing the discussion has shut down their shops for the last three days. However, none of the businessmen is ready to comment on the media out of fear.
