Assam heartthrob Zubeen slams Sahitya Sabha President Parmananda RajbongshiZubeen

Guwahati, January 5, 2019:

Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg made a shocking revelation yesterday about the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Parmananda Rajbongshi, at a an event held in Charaideo Mahotsav in Charaideo district of Assam. Zubeen said that he had been given a huge packet as a gift by the President of the Sahitya Sabha and to his disappointment, found that he had been presented with useless cosmetic items instead of books.

Recalling the incident, the crooner revealed: “He (Parmananda Rajbongshi) once invited me to Guwahati Sahitya Sabha, asking me to sing and said that the Sahitya Sabha does not have money to pay me with. I consented because it was the Sahitya Sabha and sang for an hour because my friends from Guwahati were playing instruments. Then, he gifted me a huge packet at the Sahitya Sabha. I thought he had presented me with books and took the package home. But after opening the package, I discovered it contained useless things like multani mitti, facewash, etc. I thought to myself that he should have presented me with books. So, I am scolding Parmananda Rajbongshi from this platform because I am a direct person. He is doing bad.”

Zubeen also slammed the Sahitya Sabha President for delaying his performance with a long speech. “Today, Sahitya Sabha President Parmananda Rajbongshi gave a long and tedious speech and made me sit for one and a half hours. His lecture was baseless and he does not do any work,” said Zubeen, expressing his irritation.

Zubeen’s statement is bound to send shockwaves across the state as this portrays the President of the Sahitya Sabha in a poor light. At a time when numerous Assamese groups have risen up in order to protect the “jaati”, “maati” and “bheti” of Assam, such acts of the Sahitya Sabha President will certainly discourage people from giving their all in preserving the culture, heritage and literature of Assam.
