Assam: Home Guards Demand Regularization of Jobs, Stage Protestassam

Guwahati, July 29, 2019:

The All Assam Home Guard Association on Monday staged a protest near the Assam Secretariat at Dispur during the ongoing Assembly. The guards claimed that their demands are not being met and urged the Government to fulfil their demands at the earliest.

The homeguards have demanded the regularization of their jobs. Moreover, they have demanded that their service age limit be extended to 60 years and have also urged the Government to provide them with pensions or a one-time severance pay.

They have also demanded that the home guard deployment software system be used and also urged for 'equal work for equal salary', as per the Supreme Court's directives. The association has also demanded that their jobs be regularized at the earliest as per the Gauhati High Court's orders and have also demanded that they should get the same facilities as an Assam Government employee if they die while in service. Moreover, they have requested the Assam Government to give maternity leave to the female homeguards.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, one of the protesters said: "These injustices should end, and new posts should be generated by the ones who have been trained as homeguards in the police reserve. We should get all the rights which have been promised to us. "
