Following the detection of COVID-19 positive cases, the Hailakandi district administration in Assam has declared three areas as containment zones to arrest the spread of the contagious disease. The order that comes into force from 8 pm on May 31st, 2020, shall continue to remain in force till such time the containment areas become free from coronavirus COVID-19.
District Magistrate, Megh Nidhi Dahal issued an order enforcing sealing of the geographical areas contiguous to the epicentre of houses of COVID-19 infected persons and creation of buffer zone with strict perimeter to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Containment zones have come up in and around the epicentre of COVID-19 infected persons namely Romi Singha and Monita Singha of village Rajeswarpur Part VIII under Lala revenue circle, Jahanara Begum of village Panchgram under Algapur revenue circle and Sunali Malakar of Hospital Road under Katlicherra revenue circle.

Vehicles and persons entering and exiting the containment zone will be strictly restricted as per standard operating protocols under the Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020.
Social mobilisation activities will be carried out with physical and social distancing norms among the populace in the buffer zone. Mass gatherings and meetings in public and private places in containment as well as buffer zones are banned. The containment measures will shut down everything barring essential and health services. Sanitisation protocols will be vigorously followed to keep the containment areas free from contamination.
The COVID-19 has infected a total of 1216 people and claimed four lives in Assam. Of 1216 confirmed cases, 1046 are active cases and 163 have been cured or discharged while three patients were migrated.
Assam is followed by Tripura with 261 cases and Nagaland 43 cases.

The novel coronavirus has infected over 1.82 lakh people and claimed over 5164 lives as on May 31, 2020, morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There are 89995 active cases with 86984 cases discharged and cured.
Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 2 thousand deaths. It has recorded 65168 corona cases with 28081 cured and 2197 deaths. The western state is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Gujarat has corona 16343 cases with 9230 cured and 1007 deaths. Tamil Nadu has registered 21184 cases with 12000 cured and 160 deaths. The National Capital with 18549 COVID-19 cases has crossed the 10 thousand mark on May 25th, 2020. So far, 8075 have been cured in Delhi with 416 deaths.
