DISPUR: Even as the number of COVID-19 cases across India seems to be declining after a rapid surge in the 2nd wave, the worries are far from over in a few districts of Assam where the cases continue to spiral.
And if reports are to be believed, these districts could be faced with a total lockdown if the cases do not decline at a rapid rate.
According to a source, the government shall take a decision for 10 days of complete lockdown in the districts where the number of new COVID-19 cases is not decreasing. A decision on this is likely to be taken in the review meeting on Wednesday.
Six districts -- Cachar, Nagaon, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, and Sonitpur -- are keeping the state government authorities on their toes.
In another worrying development, the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh reported the first case of Mucormycosis, commonly known as a black fungus giving rise to the belief that such cases could grow in the coming few days.

The Assam government on Saturday allowed the fully vaccinated employees to resume offices from July 1.
Issuing a statement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that from July 1, the government and private offices that have all their employees fully vaccinated can operate according to normal office hours.
Earlier this week, the state government had extended the Covid-19 restriction till June 22, easing certain curbs in some districts.
However, the inter-district ban on passenger movement through roadways is likely to continue until the COVID-19 positivity rate dips below 1%.
