Central Bureau Of Investigation(CBI) files a case against two Income Tax officers, two Chartered Accounts and a businessman.

In a recent development, two Income Tax Officers were arrested today on charges levelled by the CBI. The officers are Dr. Swetabh Suman, Commissioner of Income Tax(Audit), Guwahati with additional charges of Jorhat and Pratap Das, Income Tax Officer(Audit),Guwahati. It is reported that the officers have been arrested from Delhi and Jorhat respectively. Dr. Swetabh Suman has been brought to Guwahati after his arrest in Delhi.

Earlier in a press statement, the CBI said that from some reliable source, information against the officers is unveiled. The statement read that during 2017-18, Dr. Swetabh Suman, Commissioner  had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Pratap Singh, Ramesh Goenka, Advocate and Chartered Account, Guwahati, Amit Goenka, Advocate & Chartered Accountant, Guwahati, Suresh Agarwal, Director of M/s Win Power Infra Pvt Ltd., Jorhat having offices at Guwahati and Delhi. The statement further read that that the Commissioner of IT agreed to show undue favour to the Jorhat Based businessman by passing a favourable order in an appeal arising out of assessment done in respect of one of Agarwal’s shell companies. The statement also added that Swetabh Suman by abusing official position made attempts to obtain illegal gratification to the tune of Rs.50 lakhs for himself and Pratap Singh through the chartered accountants Ramesh Goenka and Amit Goenka.

The CBI stated that the investigation was carried out in Guwahati, Delhi, Nagaon, Jorhat, Noida and some other places. An amount of Rs. 40 lakh meant for the accused IT Officials was also seized from a middleman.
