Assam: IPS Officer Charged with Sexual Assault of 13-Yr-Old Transferred

Guwahati, January 7, 2020:

Gaurav Upadhyay, an IPS officer who has been accused of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old has been transferred from Karbi Anglong and posted in Assam Police Headquarters.

Before being transferred, he was posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. It is to be mentioned here that Gaurav Upadhyay was charged with a sexual assault case in Guwahati for assaulting a 13-year-old minor on December 31.

A sexual assault case against the top cop has been registered at the All Women’s Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act with case no. 5/20. Guwahati Commissioner of Police has confirmed the case lodged under POCSO.

Meanwhile, Child Rights activist and founder of Utsah Child Rights Organization Miguel Das Queah on Monday demanded the immediate removal of the top cop from the position.

On behalf of the child rights body, Miguel demanded Guwahati Police to finish the investigation as soon as possible and file the chargesheet without any unnecessary delays.
