A panic-stricken state fearing the Coronavirus disease has now overtaken Jorhat district in Assam after an American tourist, Hewitt, who was in town for a tour, tested positive in Bhutan.
His case, although tested positive in the neighboring country, has triggered a tense situation in the Upper Assam town, the reason being his contact with the cruise members and a few who were the hosts to the tourist and his wife, Sandra.
According to reports, the couple had arrived in Jorhat on February 22 and they spent the night at the historic Thengal Bhawan in Titabor. The following day they took a cruise trip to Kaziranga on the MV Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Cruise.
Apart from the man in highlight, 22 other tourists and 29 crew members were present in the cruise ship. They are currently being screened for the feared coronavirus.
The ‘tested positive’ status of the tourist has raised the alarm in the neighboring country, which has sealed its borders to international tourists.
According to reports, a team of experts earlier today travelled by boat to the Mahabahu and the passengers and the employees of the cruise are now placed under quarantine.
The Thengal Bhawan in Titabor has also taken necessary action after news of the positive case. The employees of the Bhawan are currently kept in isolation until reports declaring them 'Testet Negative' arrive.
It may be mentioned here that the Coronavirus scare has gripped India after the total positive cases rose to 34 on Saturday and with it now Assam has also geared up for precautions to control the possible outbreak in the state.
