GUWAHATI: The Assam government's journalist pension amount has been increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, this was informed by minister for water resource and the spokesperson of the Assam government, Pijush Hazarika.
The decision were taken in a meeting held by minister Hazarika with representatives of AAPCU, Assam Union of Working Journalists (AUWJ), Assam Photo Journalists' Association, and Electronic Media Forum of Assam.
In the meeting, a number of key decisions such are --posthumous assistance to the families of respected journalists, who are the fourth pillar of the democracy,establishing a journalist fund were discussed.

The minister said that the family of journalists who have died prematurely, but under normal circumstances, will now receive one-time posthumous assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
He also shared the information on Twitter as well.
"Today, I met representatives of AAPCU, AUWJ, & APJAEMF to discuss posthumous assistance to families of journalists who passed away prematurely. The decisions include an increase in pension amount issued by Assam govt. and one-time assistance of Rs 1 lac to Rs.3 lac," minister Hazarika tweeted.
It needs to mention that, from today, on the 10th of every month, a meeting will be held with the Information and Public Relations (PR) department and the delegates from the organisations present today.
They will be briefed on the issues raised today, and they will take steps to ensure that the process runs smoothly in the future.
