Assam: Kamrup Metro most affected with coronavirus, Darrang, Karbi, Dibrugarh lowest

Assam has witnessed a sudden surge in confirmed coronavirus cases since May 17th, 2020. The state, which had reported its first case on March 31st, 2020, had registered 100 cases on May 17. Thereafter, within eight days, the number of positive COVID-19 cases cross 500-mark.

Kamrup (Metro) district has reported the highest COVID-19 cases with 176 persons tested positive to date. Kamrup (M) is followed by Cachar with 34 cases, Karimganj with 28 cases, Hojai with 26 cases, and Kamrup and Morigaon with 20 cases each.

Meanwhile, 18 persons have been tested in Nagaon while 17 in Nalbari, 13 in Barpeta, 12 in Sivasagar, 11 each in Goalpara and Jorhat, eight in Dhubri, seven in Dima Hasao, six each in Chirang and Tinsukia, five in Bongaigaon, four each in Dhemaji, West Karbi Anglong and South Salmara Mankachar.

On the other hand, Bishwanath and Udalguri reported two COVID-19 cases each while one case each in Darrang, Dibrugarh, and Karbi Anglong.

With the latest two cases reported in Assam today, the state count has gone up to 597. Of 597 confirmed cases, 528 are active COVID-19 cases while four died of the infection in the state so far.

The state government has repeatedly appealed the people of the state to follow the guidelines laid by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to prevent the spread of the lethal virus.

Meanwhile, Tripura has registered the second-highest coronavirus cases in Northeast India with 194 cases followed by Manipur with 39 COVID-19 cases.
