KARBI ANGLONG: Karbi Students Association (KSA) led by Bijoy Bey on Sunday called for an economic blockade of Nagaland from November 17.

The KSA has called for the blockade to protest against unabated illegal encroachment in the Karbi Anglong district by people from the neighbouring state.

KSA leader Simeon Rongphar had also called for a four-hour economic blockade on November 20 in case the KAAC and the Assam and Nagaland governments fail to hold a tripartite talk on the border dispute.

The students’ organization further claimed that encroachment activities by Naga miscreants have increased from October.

The encroachers frequently entered the district’s Daldali Reserve Forest to cut down trees.

On November 13, KSA threatened to launch an economic blockade against Nagaland if the authorities fail to organise a tripartite talk on the Assam-Nagaland border.

The students’ body has been demanding a tripartite talk on the Assam-Nagaland border issue among the governments of Assam, Nagaland and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Assam’s border row with its neighbours in the northeast has shifted from areas adjoining Mizoram to Nagaland.
