Assam: KMSS Leader Akhil Gogoi’s Mother Priyada Continues Hunger StrikePriyada

Golaghat, December 24, 2019:

Priyada Gogoi, the ailing mother of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi is continuing her indefinite hunger strike, which she began on December 20.

Her demand is to see Akhil Gogoi, who is in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), released.

Amid the rising clamour for her son's release from various pressure groups, Priyada too is demanding her son's immediate and unconditional release. However, Gogoi’s mother, Priyada Gogoi firmly believes that her son will soon return home. “I feel he is doing well and will soon come home. He has not done anything wrong. He always follows the path of righteousness", she told mediapersons.

It may be mentioned here that Priyada Gogoi has been on a hunger strike outside her residence in Golaghat district. But, since her condition started deteriorating, she was shifted to her residence.

Many well-wishers have been taking stock of her health condition, and they have also demanded an unconditional release of the KMSS leader.

Women of the Selenghat area of Golaghat have also extended their support to Gogoi’s mother. One of the women expressed her dismay at Akhil’s arrest and condemned the Citizenship Act. “They should free Akhil Gogoi as early as possible. Also, we will never accept the CAA. Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal would understand the plight of the five martyrs killed during the protests, if he had kids of his own,” she said.

She went on to say that if the Assam CM is so eager to provide shelter to foreigners, he should relocate to a foreign land and stay there. “Assam will never accept the load of foreigners,” she warned, and immediately launched into chants of “Joi Aai Axom.”

It may be mentioned here that Assam Police had detained Akhil Gogoi on December 12 and handed him over to the NIA. He has been charged with attempts to “spread Maoist functioning” in Assam.
