Assam: KMSS Leader Arrested for Allegedly Raping Minor

Charaideo, January 18, 2019:

A Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) member, identified as Papu Gogoi (32), has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Charaideo district of Assam.

Sources informed is that the minor girl in question, a resident of Borhat in Charaideo District, used to work as a domestic help at Gogoi's residence in Narem Pathar, which is adjacent to the victim‘s village.

An FIR was lodged today by the mother of the victim at Borhat Police Station regarding rape of the minor by Gogoi, after the girl had reportedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison.

The victim was taken to the local hospital at Borhat and police personnel visited her there. She was thereafter referred to the Rajapukhuri Civil Hospital at Sonari, and is now in a stable state, reports said.

The accused fled from Borhat after the incident. However, a dedicated team led by SI Birinch Konwar, the OC of Borhat Police Station, immediately swung into action and with able support of the Charaideo District Cyber Cell, the accused was arrested at Dibrugarh at around 4 pm, sources informed Inside Northeast.

Reportedly, Papu Gogoi is the Publicity Secretary of KMSS of the Charaideo District Committee.

Borhat Police Station Case No-02/2020 u/s- 376 IPC R/W- Sec- 4 POCSO Act has been registered, and investigation has been started in this regard by the local authorities.
