Assam: Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania Claims Credit for Bringing 'Peace' to BTADsarania

Guwahati, February 22, 2020:

Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania condemned Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary for his statements in which he had claimed that Sarania's men had killed a Bodoland People's Front (BPF) worker, Khairul Haque, in Udalguri district of Assam on Friday.

"It is final that Hagrama Mohilary will be gone (at the end of the elections)", Sarania said, and condemned the BTC Chief for claiming that the Kokrajhar MP's men are behing the attack.

"Hagrama has said that ceasefire ULFAs have weapons, I have not heard till now, and it is rather unfortunate. As far we have seen...scooty bearing registration number 9994, he was summoned via phone. Then, he was sat down and shot from point blank range. But instead of punishing the culprits, they are blaming me". Sarania added.

"The way it is being colored, I am shocked that these things can be said in the deceased's house. I believe that they should respect people's emotions, sentiment, and humanity. Naba Sarania should not have been dragged here", Sarania said, and took credit for the prevailing situation of "peace" in the BTC region. Sarania further argued that the opposition parties should honor him instead of badmouthing him as he has ushered in an era of peace in the region, that has on January 27, seen the signing of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) pact aimed at bringing an end to the armed insurgency in the region.

Earlier, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hargrama Mohilary, slamming political rival Naba Sarania, held the latter responsible for the gunning down of a Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) worker in Udalguri, Assam.

Addressing the media from the residence of the deceased, identified as Khairul Haque, Hagrama Mohilary said that Naba Sarania, who is the current Lok Sabha MP from Kokrajhar, is the man behind the killing of the BPF worker.

“No Bodo has illegal firearms anymore”, reasoned Mohilary, adding that Sarania is the only one in the possession of illegal weapons in the Bodo-dominated region in Assam. Thus, Hagrama argued, Sarania must be the one responsible for the killing of the worker. “Only Hira Sarania can claim possession of illegal firearms…his men only have killed him (Haque)”, said Hagrama.
