DHUBRI: The last rites of martyred army jawan Haradhan Chandra Roy were performed today at 9 am with full military and state honors at his hometown in Dhubri.

Roy’s mortal remains wrapped in the national flag and covered in flowers, reached his village Phutukibari-Medhipara under Sapatgram PS, this morning. The Army Havildar’s family was also present to pay their last respects before the cremation.

Assam Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury, Dhubri MLA Wajid Ali Choudhury and Superintendent of Police Ananda Mishra were all present in the funeral procession to extend their condolences to the family and pay tributes.

The martyred Army havildar’s remains arrived at the Guwahati Airport at around 5:30 pm on Sunday. Later in the evening, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid last respect to the jawan at the Army Base Hospital, Basistha in Guwahati.

Extending his condolences, the Chief Minister also announced the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs.20 lakh to the bereaved family for his sacrifice.

The CM tweeted, “CM Shri @sarbanandsonwal paid rich tributes to martyred Army jawan Hardhan Rai in Guwahati. The @adgpi jawan from Dhubri district of Assam laid down his life in the line of duty in J&K. #Salute2Soldiers”

Assam’s Haradhan Roy was among the 5 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice at the Line of Control on November 13, 2020.

Haradhan Roy, who hails from Bilasipara in Dhubri district, has left behind a 2-year-old child.

The Indian Army on Sunday paid tribute to Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy, Naik Satai Bhushan Rameshrao, Gunner Subodh Ghosh and Sepoy Jondhale Rushikesh Ramchandra, who made the supreme sacrifice on 13 November 2020 in North Kashmir.

Army General MM Naravane and all other ranks of the Army saluted the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts.

“General MM Naravane #COAS and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy, Naik S B Rameshrao, Gunner Subodh Ghosh & Sepoy J Rushikesh Ramchandra; offer deepest condolences to the families,” the Indian Army tweeted.
