Guwahati, December 20, 2019:

The All Assam Lawyers’ Association on Friday launched a massive rally titled “Raj Bhawan Chalo” statewide to oppose the enactment of the citizenship law.

Lawyers from across the state joined the protest rally against the contentious Act and held placards with slogans against the government. The protesters voiced out loud and clear that the Act will not be accepted at any cost as it violates the Constitution of India.

It may be mentioned here that Advocates’ bodies across the state have initiated a protest rally against the newly announced legislation. The protests by the advocates were well marked in the streets of Guwahati, Nagaon, Dibrugarh, and other districts of Assam.

It is to be mentioned here that the state of Assam is witnessing unrest situation after the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill turned Act was passed in the Rajya Sabha on December 11.

People from all sections of the society have moved to the streets demanding to scrap of the Bill-turned-Act. The situation took a violent turn soon after the Bill was passed in the Upper House leading to the imposition of curfew for four days and suspension of internet services for 10 days. As many as five people were martyred in the agitation against the Act.
