Assam: Lurin Jyoti Gogoi likely to be 1st President of AJP

GUWAHATI: Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, the former General Secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is likely to become the President of the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), one of the newest political parties to have come out of Assam. According to reports, the AJP's General Convention is scheduled to be held on December 16 next where many key decisions of the party shall be taken.

The new regional political party promoted by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has been named the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP). It was earlier informed by sources that the party's Convention would be held on November.

The new political entity has given the slogan of “ghore aami” (we in each and every household), ahead of the assembly election. Post the AASU's 17th General Convention held recently in Duliajan. During the General Convention, Gogoi stepped down as the General Secretary of the students' body.

Basanta Deka, convenor of AJP, said that the Constitution of the new regional party has already been prepared. Krishna Gopal Bhattacharjya, another convenor, said the party will stand for clean governance and work for development of communities across the state.

Meanwhile, rumours are rife that Lurin Jyoti Gogoi shall join the AJP in the lead-up to the election and shall contest the upcoming polls on an AJP ticket.
