Assam: Lurin Jyoti Gogoi officially begins his political career by joining AJP

SIVASAGAR: Former All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leader Lurin Jyoti Gogoi officially began his political innings today after joining Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), the newest political party on the block.

Addressing media persons in Sivasagar where the final shape to the party is being given, Gogoi promised a return of "regionalism" and vanquishing of anti-Assamese elements from the political hemisphere of the state.

Gogoi said that with the arrrival of the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on the scene, the journey of the 'jaati' has officially begun and the Assam of everyone's dreams is not too far away.

"As of now, communal tensions prevail in Assam, and conspiracies are being hatched to destroy the democratic nature of Assam. There is a concerted effort to destroy the culture of Assam," Gogoi said, after officially donning AJP robes.

Gogoi also resolved to oppose the 'CAA' with fresh vigour, after the COVID-19 pandemic became a dampener and stalled the agitation. "The stir against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) has not come to an end. It has subsided for the time being due to the coronavirus pandemic situation. The stir will be intensified very soon," he said.

MLA Pabindra Deka, who quit the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) yesterday, allegedly due to differences with other leaders over the 'CAA', also joined the AJP party today.

On the same day, senior AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta,
Mahanta lashed out against the current leadership of his party, that is currently being headed by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora.
