Guwahati, January 10, 2020:

Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress took to the streets of Guwahati and vehemently condemned the assault on the students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) by masked goons on December 5.

Criticizing the central government for its failure to protect the educational institution, the women staged a demonstration outside Guwahati’s Rajiv Bhawan on Friday.

It may be mentioned here that the protest of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress condemning the JNU violence that took place on Sunday evening has added to the countrywide protests, which had come out in support of the JNU students and teachers.

On Sunday, masked goons, allegedly backed by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had entered the premises of JNU and brutally assaulted some of the students. They also attacked the teachers apart from vandalizing hostel property. Around 34 students and teachers were gravely injured in the attack, JNU Students’ Union President Aishe Ghosh being one of them.
