At a time when communal clashes across the country are at an all-time high, a young guy has set an example of unity and brotherhood in the society during Vijaya Dashami.
The last day of Durga Puja experienced a unique celebration of brotherhood among the Hindu and Muslim devotees in Assam’s Guwahati.

“When the ‘Dhaak’ was on full tune with people dancing all around, a voice came out loud asking to stop the Dhaak. A young boy from the crowd of people who were on their way to immerse the goddess Durga, asked the musicians to stop as the evening Azaan was performed,” said Syeda Shehnaz Anwar, a resident of Machkhowa.
Speaking with Inside Northeast, Syeda Shehnaz Anwar said, “Yesterday, we all gathered in the terrace to see the idol being taken to the ports for immersion on Vijaya Dashami and after some time, the Azaan was performed. An announcement was made to stop the Dhaak as the guy standing along the queue screamed out loud saying it’s a good sign, we all should respect other religions too. Immediately, all stopped playing loud music in the area.”

Anwar also shared a post on her Facebook handle thanked the Shantipur Puja Committee. "You people have done a great job heartfelt gratitude and salute to you peoples", she said. She further added that while the devotees were heading to Machkhowa for immersion of Durga, and a committee member stopped the playing of music to allow the recital of Azaan, after which the DJ stopped immediately.
