Assam: Man held in Sonari over alleged links with ULFA-I
A person has been detained in Assam’s Charaideo district on suspicion of having links with the proscribed insurgent group ULFA (Independent), officials said.

A person has been detained in Assam’s Charaideo district on suspicion of having links with the proscribed insurgent group ULFA (Independent), officials said.
The individual, identified as Wang alias Noni, was apprehended from Namtola area under Sonari subdivision of Charaideo district, Assam during a security operation. Authorities suspect that he was acting as a linkman for the outfit, facilitating communication or logistical support.
Security agencies have not disclosed further operational details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The detained individual is currently being questioned to ascertain the extent of his involvement and any possible network connections.
Earlier, Tinsukia Police apprehended seven alleged linkmen of ULFA (Independent) from different parts of the district, officials said.
According to police sources, the detained individuals were allegedly involved in the exchange of information with ULFA (Independent) over an extended period. The arrests were carried out in separate operations across multiple locations.
Police stated that the accused are currently under interrogation as part of an ongoing investigation to ascertain the extent of their involvement and possible links within the network.
The seven individuals have been identified as Barlin Neog of Bordumsa; Mithu Gohain and Lilambar Moran, both residents of Pengree; Bikash Deka of Kakopathar; Shiba Deb and Paritosh Deb, both from Miao in Arunachal Pradesh; and Manob Dey of Makum.
Further investigation is underway.
