In the obscene post, the youth stated that he would kill the Minister within the next 10 days. "If I am not able to gun down (Himanta) within the next 10 days, my name is not Rajiv Hunter Rahman", he wrote. According to his Facebook profile, Rahman is a resident of Guwahati city of Assam.

Inside Northeast tried reaching out to the top-tier Assam police authorities, but they are not available for comment.

Earlier, a youth from Assam, Manuruddin Rahman, had landed in the police net after threatening to assassinate Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

According to reports, the youth had created a fake Facebook account with the name ‘Surjit Harshas’ and had used it to abuse and threaten to kill the Chief Minister on social media.

It may be mentioned here that the misuse of social media is becoming increasingly common, with people taking to the platform to vent out their anger and frustrations. This creates an unnecessary chain of hatred, and online research suggests that 'online hate speech' is at an all-time high.
