In a Bill tabled in Assam Assembly, the government proposed to fix minimum pay for teaching and non-teaching staff of private schools across the state. The Assam Non-Government Educational Institutions (Regulation and Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2018 proposed that "no teaching or non-teaching staff of a non-government educational institution shall be paid emoluments less than the norms fixed by the appropriate authority".
Besides, the teachers of private schools will have to be qualified as per norms set by the National Council for Teachers Education and the norms fixed under the respective Service Rules framed by the state government, the Bill said.
