Assam Minister cautions against Subansiri project

Guwahati (Assam), August 9, 2018

Following the devastation caused by the recent floods in Assam that have been largely attributed to sudden release of waters from dams, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora has urged the government to reconsider construction of the big dam over the Subansiri river.

Speaking to the media here, Bora remarked when a small dam by NEEPCO could bring so much devastation, imagine what would happen the big dam starts operating. “A much worse situation might take place in Assam,” he feared.

He added that the big dam will almost destroy upper Assam if water was released all of a sudden.
