Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Hails 'Final Solution' for Bodos

Guwahati, January 28, 2020:

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, one of the signatories of the Bodo Peace Accord, has welcomed the Government's move to resolve the decades-long struggle "final and comprehensive solution for the Bodos keeping intact the Assamese territorial integrity."

At one point we lost Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya...but under the leadership of PM Modi, the territorial integrity of Assam has been retained, adding, "Now Bodoland, that will now be known as BTR or Bodoland Territorial Council has respected all aspects of the Bodo way of life."

The BJP leader also informed that a 'Satellite Council' will be set up to include only the Bodo-majority villages. Through self-governance by only including Bodo villages and added that the Bodo language will be preserved and the language will also be safeguarded, apart from .

"4,000 people laid down their lives. Many youths demanding separate state Bodoland, army personnel laid down their lives and in total 4,000 people laid down their lives", Himanta Biswa said, adding that in the latest treaty, all factions demanding a separate State Bodoland had been brought on the same negotiating table. "In earlier times, the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) and the NDFB were not a part of the previous two pacts.."

"We were not in a position to demand lasting peace in the territory", Biswa Sarma said, and added that in the presence of PM Modi, Amit Shah, and CM Sonowal, a historic treaty was signed. The presence of the ABSU signalled the involvement of the civil bodies, the presence of the NDFB signalled the presence of the militants.

It may be mentioned here that on January 27, nine Bodo groups signed an agreement with the Centre and the Assam government in New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the new accord marked a “final and comprehensive solution” to the demand of the Bodos, while retaining the territorial integrity of Assam.
