Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika and Meghalaya Deputy CM visit border areas to take opinion from local people

GUWAHATI: Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika along with Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong, Dispur MLA Atul Bora, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) and other senior officials of both the states inspected the border areas of the states and interacted with the local people of the areas.

GUWAHATI: Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika along with Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong, Dispur MLA Atul Bora, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) and other senior officials of both the states inspected the border areas of the states and interacted with the local people of the areas.

Minister Pijush Hazarika along with Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong today visited Barpathar area and interacted with the locals out there.

The ministers along with MLAs and senior officers of both the states then visited Pilingkata, Ganeshnagar, Maikhuli, Patarkuchi and Khanapara area and interacted with the local people regarding the border issue and took their opinion. Minister Pijush Hazarika while, interacting to the people and media in the area told that both the ministers of Assam and Meghalaya had come to the place to understand the opinion of the people and based on their inspection regarding administrative convenience, developmental activities etc. they would submit a report to the Chief Ministers of both the states, based on which the Chief Ministers would take a final decision on that matter. Noting that there were not many border issues or differences in the areas visited today, the Minister also said that a thorough discussion of these differences would lead to a conclusion and both the governments would be able to find a lasting solution.

 

On the other hand, mentioning that to resolve any border issue or differences of opinion, visit to the grassroots is much, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister thanked both the Chief Ministers for initiating such steps to resolve border differences. He also thanked Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika for visiting five to six places together with him and taking people’s opinion.

It is worth mentioning that after taking charge of Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma gave priority to resolve border differences with the neighbouring states. As part of this priority a committee was formed recently under the chairmanship of Minister Pijush Hazarika with the local MLAs, Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner to resolve the border differences with Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district.

 

The committee members, under the leadership of Minister Pijush Hazarika recently visited Meghalaya and had a discussion with Meghalaya Deputy CM. Minister Pijush Hazarika had also another round of discussion with the Deputy CM of Meghalaya, MLAs and other senior officers of the states in Guwahati yesterday evening. The minister hoped that this initiative of both the Chief Ministers to resolve border differences would lead to a lasting solution of the long pending problem.
