GUWAHATI: A team of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR), today visited the house of the minor rape and murder victim in the Lakhimpur district of Assam.
Kadam, Addl SP Lakhimpur, who accompanied the team, said, “The post mortem reports are yet to come. So we are not in a position to come to any conclusion.”
Though the police have detained 17 suspects in connection with the brutal crime, no arrest has been possible so far due to lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, the ASCPCR today had a discussion with Lakhimpur deputy commissioner Khargeswar Pegu regarding the heinous crime. They urged Pegu to solve the case at the earliest and give the culprits exemplary punishment.
The ASCPCR team also discussed the formation of a village-level child protection committee and block-level child protection committee to address the child protection issues to the general people and make them aware of child rights.
A 9-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered at her home in the absence of her parents.
The body of the victim was later found hanging from the ceiling of her house.
