Minorities Students’ Union call for 12-hour bandh in Darrang district in protest against Dhalpur firing incident

GUWAHATI: All Assam Minorities Students' Union and a few other organizations have jointly called a 12-hour band in Darrang district of Assam in protest against Thursday's incident, where policemen, including a government-appointed photographer, were seen mercilessly beating up an unidentified person.

During a press conference, the joint committee of the organizations said they have demanded the state government and administration to give Rs 10 lakh to the kin of each deceased person and Rs 5 lakh to each injured person.

Meanwhile, The Assam police arrested the official photographer of alleged Assam police.The photographer has been identified as Bijoy Bonia.

Bonia was seen attacking a motionless body in a viral video from the Dhalpur firing incident.

The Assam Government on Thursday decided to institute a judicial inquiry into the Dhalpur firing incident. According to an official release, the inquiry would be conducted under the chairmanship of a retired judge of Gauhati High Court.
