GUWAHATI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), taking cognizance of a complaint filed by a social rights activist, has issued notices to the Union Home secretary and the Chief secretaries of Assam and Mizoram asking them to file a report on the July 26 border violence.
Four days after the violence, that took lives of six police personnel, Injamul Haque, a resident of Assam’s Kamrup district lodged a complaint on the attack to the commission. Based on the complaint the commission registered a case under no-282/3/2/2021.
"The Commission has considered the matter. Facts of the case are disturbing. The allegations made in the complaint are serious in nature involving deaths and injuries to the public servant”, stated the notice of NHRC.
"The case therefore involves grave violation of Human Rights of the deceased and injured. Such types of cases are viewed very seriously by the Commission. In these circumstances, let a Notice be sent," reads further.
At least six Assam Police personnel and one civilian were killed and more than 50 people injured as the festering border dispute between the two Northeastern states erupted into a bloody conflict on July 26.
“NOW THEREFORE TAKE NOTICE that you are required to submit the requisite information/report within four weeks from the date of receipt of this notice,” said NHRC.
