Narayan Deka, an MLA from Barkhetri, Assam has been tested positive from Covid19. As per sources, he was at his own constituency. However, he visited Guwahati. The MLA is currently lodged in Guwahati as per sources closes to the matter.
Narayan Deka is a Bharatiya Janata Party politician from Assam. He has been elected in Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from Barkhetry constituency. He defeated Diganta Barman(Indian National Congress), son of four times MLA(Dr Bhumidhar Barman) with a margin of nearly 9000.
In a different case, 2 people are found to be Covid19 positive in Rajbhawan, Kharguli, Assam. Governor Jagdish Mukhi's own guard Rajumoni Kalita and Trolukya Kalita have been infected with coronavirus.
Deka is the second MLA to be tested positive in Assam. Earlier, BJP MLA from Patharkandi, Krishnendu Pal has been tested positive for COVID19. He is a 1st time MLA. Sources revealed to Inside Northeast that the MLA had visited a lot of quarantine centres recently. Patharkandi is a township located in Karimganj district in the Indian state of Assam. It is 350 kilometres south of the state capital Guwahati and 32 kilometres south of the district headquarters Karimganj.

Assam reported 140 new cases in 1st July, 2020 taking the state’s total to 8547 cases. Of the 8547 cases, 2885 are active cases, 5647 are discharged and 12 people have died so far.
In the last 24 hours, Guwahati has recorded 502 covid19 cases.
The Assam government has announced the total lockdown from 28th June in Guwahati and the whole of Kamrup Metro amid the rising number of Covid-19 cases. In the last 24 hour, 502 cases have been recorded in Guwahati. As such state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma (HBS) held a press conference to abreast the people regarding the rise of cases and the way forward.
“The lockdown plan has been initiated and I have roamed the city extensively to check the progress. People have cooperated successfully in the lockdown. However, Guwahati is in extremely critical condition”, said the Health Minister.
