GUWAHATI: Two Congress MLAs -- Ajanta Neog and Roselina Tirkey -- are likely to be expelled from the Grand Old Party later today amid rumours that they are headed towards the BJP party ahead of the Assembly elections in Assam.

According to sources, the two MLAs, who are said to be in talks with the top rung of the BJP party ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit, will be expelled later today. However, the report is yet to be confirmed.

While Neog met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati yesterday, Roselina Tirkey was recently seen at a BJP meeting in Golaghat district.

According to reports, Neog was present at a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal yesterday, where discussions were undertaken to switch parties. If reports are to be believed, the senior Congresswoman will join the BJP during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit (Shah is arriving on December 26) or in mid-January.

Meanwhile, sources close to the BJP have informed Inside Northeast that while 3 Congress leaders are certain to join the party, 3 others are testing the waters and will take the decision at a later period in time.

Assam Minister and BJP's go-to man in the Northeast Himanta Biswa Sarma has also announced that several senior Congress leaders are likely to jump ship to the saffron power ahead of the election.

These developments have been reported amid a massive exodus from the Congress, even as its leaders continue to appeal to regional parties to form alliances to resume control of Dispur. At the same time, Congress' alliance with the Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) seems to be up in the air after the demise of veteran Tarun Gogoi, who was in favour of the alliance.
