GUWAHATI: Bodoland People's Front (BPF) leader and Assam Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary today declared that he will be joining the BJP ahead of the crucial polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. This is a major switch as Daimary has been one of the mainstays of the BPF party and had been appointed as the Working President of the party. Today, he cast off those robes and confirmed that he has kickstarted preparations to leave the party.

"There are some Parliamentary acts that have to be followed by an elected representative. After completing these formalities, I shall join a party," Daimary stated during a press briefing that he had hosted in the Lily Hotel in Guwahati. The Assam MP said that he is legally paving the way to formally resign from the primary membership of the BPF.

Daimary clarified that he does not have any grudges against the workers and wished them luck for the times ahead.

"I do not wish to insult anyone, but I am making this declaration so that my position is clear and so that the BPF party can think independently. After 2-3 days, I will begin the procedure to formally resign from the party," the Assam Rajya Sabha MP said.

Speaking on his alleged rift with Hagrama Mohilary, Assam MP Daimary said that he is opposed to the BPF's opposition to the creation of a Bodo Kachari autonomous welfare Council outside 6th schedule area for welfare of Bodo community.

In regards to prevailing issues in the region, Daimary further stated that he sees eye-to-eye with Himanta Biswa Sarma as far as land rights issues in the region are concerned.

The Rajya Sabha MP also stated that people in the BTC region have lost their "faith" in the BTC administration and hence, the lost trust has to be restored.

Earlier, announcing his resignation as the Working President of the BPF party, Biswajit Daimary dashed off a letter to former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary in which he stated that he is looking forward to a “fresh start.”
