Guwahati, October 23, 2018:

At the time of entire Assam protesting against the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, MPs from Assam did not take part in the ongoing meeting held on Tuesday.

The meeting began at 3:00 pm that was scheduled at 11: 30 am today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramen Deka and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa did not attend the meeting. Reportedly, Ramen Deka is in China.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 as introduced in Lok Sabha was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee of both the Houses, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Satyapal Singh (Baghpat), MP for examination and presenting a report to the Parliament. It has been decided to seek views and suggestions on the Bill from individuals and associations/bodies concerned.

However, the JPC’s visit on Assam and Barak Valley created a huge clash following the misconduct
