Assam must be Exempted from CAA: Bengali Society to Centrebengali society

Moran, January 18, 2019:

Staging a massive protest against the Indian Government's amendment of the Citizenship Act, members of the Bengali Society in Moran town in Dibrugarh district of Assam demanded that the Narendra Modi must roll back the contentious legislation in order to ensure that .

Staging a 2-hour sit in demonstration against the CAA , the Bengalis alleged that the BJP's ploy to bring in Hindu-Bengalis to Assam to increase their vote bank will, in most likelihood, harm the interest of those Bengalis who have already adopted the Assamese way of life and imbibed the culture and traditions of the land. The CAA will create divisions among the Assamese people and the Bengalis already staying in Assam, they fear.

The anti-CAA Bengalis said that they would never accept the imposition of the CAA. The protest was conducted in the heartland of Moran town on National Highway-37 where the Moran Bengali Society, many indigenous organizations and the people of Moran town were seen taking part. The protest was led by Kajal Das and Ranjan Sen, two prominent Bengali leaders from the region.
