Based on leads provided by two arrested NDFB (Songbijit) rebels, a joint team of the police and the Army arrested another member of the outfit on Thursday.
The arrested cadre was identified as Deepak Brahma alias B Daphungwn. The personnel seized one hand grenade of Chinese origin, one 5.56mm pistol, one US-made M-16 rifle along with one magazine and eleven 5.56 mm live rounds.
The trio were allegedly involved in subversive activities and trying to carry out disruptive activities in the run up to Independence Day.
Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh said Dikum Basumatary alias B Derhasat, who was apprehended earlier, is a hardcore and Myanmar-trained cadre of the NDFB-S and he has been working as a platoon commander of Kokrajhar.
“He along with other cadres and over-ground workers of the outfit like apprehended Jibiar Basumatary have been involved in extortion, recruitment of new cadres and other subversive activities in Kokrajhar district. The apprehended persons were trying to change their location to Ripu Reserve Forest to join the other group of NDFB-S cadres led by Batha, who is operating from Chirang-Kokrajhar border,” Singh said.
