NF Railway (NFR) has roped in unmanned aerial vehicles or drones for the detailed inspection of various activities which fall under the NFR system.
Speaking to INSIDENE, Nripen Bhattacharjee, PRO, NF Railway said that the drones would be used for day to day line inspection, keeping tab on developmental activities and ongoing projects, bridge work and hilly areas where ground assessment is not possible. “The inspection of bridges is a detailed process and the NFR faces numerous difficulties conducting the same due to the tough terrain of the region. The use of drones shall facilitate the inspection process, said Bhattacharjee”. Survey of two major bridges on the Guwahati-Lumding section has already been completed using drones, added Bhattacherjee.
The inspection of 28 bridges shall be carried out using drones which also include the Saraighat Bridge, Naranarayan Setu and Bogibeel bridge.
