The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a search operation at the residence of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Thursday morning.
The NIA officials arrived at Gogoi’s Guwahati residence, which is at Nizarapar of Chandmari area at around 7 am and began the search operation.

Another team of NIA officials carried out a search operation at the office of KMSS, which is in Guwahati’s Gandhibasti area.
It may be mentioned here that the peasant leader would be produced before the NIA court around 10 am today. According to sources, he was brought to Guwahati from Delhi on Wednesday evening.

Akhil Gogoi, who was arrested on December 16 by Assam Police, was leading the massive Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests across Assam. The Police department handed him over to the NIA, which in turn, levelled charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
It may be mentioned here that students, well-wishers and several social and civil organisations have been demanding the government to free Akhil Gogoi at the earliest. Gogoi’s mother Priyada Gogoi has also gone on an indefinite hunger strike since December 20.
